Cops save schoolgirl from rape
A 13-year-old schoolgirl was rescued by police after being kidnapped by a man in Chaguanas yesterday.
Reports revealed that around 3 pm, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and PC Harriet were on patrol when they observed a car parked in a canefield at Woodford Lodge. The officers saw a schoolgirl in uniform in the backseat with a man. The frightened girl was rescued by the two officers, and the man, who attempted to escape by running through a canefield, was arrested. The girl and the suspect were taken to the Chaguanas Police Station. Newsday understands that the girl boarded a taxi in Chaguanas asking to be taken to her Felicity home. The driver, however, allegedly took her to the canefield instead. PC Harriet charged the man with kidnapping and attempted rape. He is to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate on Monday.
