Tight security for Wet Fete

SECURITY CONCERNS following a stabbing incident last year have prompted promoters of the Caribbean Wet Fete to move the event to a bigger venue this year. The all day cooler party takes place tomorrow at the Screamers Car Park, San Fernando, from noon.

Committee leader Joel Morris (Signal To Noise) said the new venue allows for more space and the area itself is surrounded by security towers. The promoters have also been working with the Southern police officials, including Senior Superinten-dent Dawson Victor to ensure stringent safety measures are in place. There will be an increased police presence at the event, including undercover officers along with members of the Guard and Emergency Branch, Fraud Squad, Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Task Force.

In addition, there will be police mobile patrols of the area, as well as canine security around the venue and in the car parks for the duration of the fete. “Let Peace Rain” is the theme for this year’s event which will feature Invazion, Krosfyah, Burning Flames and Dil-E-Nadan, as well as guest artistes Denise Belfon, Iwer, Bunji, Rupee, Maximus Dan and the Mighty Sparrow.
