Abandoned child hospitalised
The six children who were rescued from their Rio Claro home and placed in a south children’s home have been described as “progressing well” by a caregiver at the home.
However, yesterday, the caregiver also revealed that two of the children had to be placed on medication, including the youngest child, a three-month-old infant, who had been diagnosed as suffering from a type of bronchitis. She said that due to the severity of the condition, the infant, who exhibited severe bouts of wheezing, coughing and heavy breathing, had to be warded at the Mt Hope Hospital. “When he first came here, he used to cry a lot, especially when he started to cough, but now that the medication seems to be working, he is beginning to eat and sleep a lot better now,” she said.
The caregiver also revealed that one of girls, a three-year-old, also appeared to be suffering from a skin disorder which left blisters and sores on her hands and feet. She said that after examination by the home’s physician, a dosage of antibiotic creams and medicines had been prescribed for the little girl. “Other than that, they are eating properly and are beginning to adjust to the home environment,” she said. She added that the three eldest children had also been enrolled in a pre-school.
