PowerGen win by 228 runs in Guillen cricket
Powergen Cricket Club defeated Mayo Sports by 228 runs in the second round of the 2004 Noel Guillen cricket series at Union Hall yesterday.
Batting first PowerGen made an impressive 285 for six in 36 overs with Nicholas Ramphal getting 81 and Nigel Beckles an unbeaten 69. Mayo were then shot out for 57 with Brent Harriot taking three for 17. He was well supported by Farrell Jugmohan with three for six and Randy Sobie, two for 15. At Inshan Ali Park, Clico Preysal defeated W-Connection Wanderers by 62 runs. Preysal led by an unbeaten 54 from Dilip Basdeo made 187 for nine. Wanderers were then routed for 125 in reply — giving Preysal their second win the series.
The major upset on the day was the three-wicket whipping newcomers Green Arrow dished out to First Citizens Clarke Road United at Wilson Road. After tallying 156 for seven in their allotted 40 overs, Green Arrow rallied well from 112 for seven to reach the winning target in the final over without further loss.
