Battle heats up in Sunday League

The battle for honours in Group “B” of the Carib Sunday League cricket competition continues to be hotly contested as the four teams tied in first place all won their matches over the weekend in the fifth round.

First Citizens Clarke Road, W-Connection Wanderers, PowerGen and Clico Preysal have all won four of their five matches to date worth 12 points. Three teams in Group “B” have already played themselves out of the tournament. They are winless Green Arrow, Mayo and surprisingly Couva Sports. Munroe Road have seven points from five matches and can still force their way into the knockout stage by winning their final two fixtures. They will also have to hope that one of the four top teams lose both their matches.

In Group “A”, there is a clear leader in Alescon Comet who have won their five matches for 15 points. In close proximity are Queen’s Park CC, while Merryboys and Tile It Central Sports are slogging it out for third place. Both teams are locked on nine points and this is after Tile It Central Sports’ victory over Merryboys on Sunday. The final two rounds of the preliminary will be played this weekend.
