Chopped, robbed on way to fete

A 24-YEAR-OLD man, on his way to a fete Sunday night, was chopped and robbed of a gold chain by three armed bandits.

At around 9 pm Jason Marcano, of St Mary’s Village, South Oropouche, was walking along Duke Street, Oropouche, when three men armed with cutlasses demanded he hand over his cash and other valuables. Marcano told investigators he tried to run away but was grabbed and chopped several times about the body. A bleeding, semi-conscious Marcano   had his $300 gold chain snatched from around his neck by the trio who fled the scene.

Marcano raised an alarm and residents of the area telephoned the Oropouche Police Post. He was taken to San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and discharged. Up to late yesterday no arrests had been made and PC Rishie Ramsaran is continuing investigations.
