Bovell III off to W/Cup splash

ACE Trinidad and Tobago swimmer George Bovell III leaves for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the final leg of the FINA Swimming World Cup which begins on Friday. Accompanying the local merman will be his coach Anil Roberts along with father and manager George Bovell II. Roberts said this meeting which ends on Sunday is crucial to Bovell III, as it maintains his taste for international competition leading up to the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

He pointed out, although collegiate swimming in the United States is extremely keen and competitive, it is important for Bovell III to swim against the “professionals.” Bovell III has been churning up the waters in the United States for his Auburn University team. And following the Brazil splash, he is set to return to the United States for the South East Conference Championships at month end, and later the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships in March in New York. Roberts said Bovell III has his focus on the Olympics in August this year, and will compete in three events, his 200 metres individual medley specialty, the 100 metres and 200 metres freestyle.
