Champs W Connection U-17s make great start
CHAMPIONS W Connection made a winning start to the defence of their title in the Carapichaima Under-17 Football Super League, when they edged Praesto Presto 2-1. Devon Drayton scored from the penalty spot to give Connection the lead after 19 minutes of last Saturday’s Group “A” match at St Mary’s Recreation Ground. And Jamal Wiggins extended the lead when he struck in the 42nd.
Anthony Halls scored in the 61st minute, but it only served as consolation to Praesto Presto. Northerners Trendsetter Hawks and Phase IV Nationals drew goalless, but Point Fortin Civic Centre pounded St Mary’s United 4-0 in the other Group “A” matches on Sunday. The “Black City” youngsters got their first goals from Tsion Thomas in the sixth minute and Aaron Joseph added his quota in the ninth. Akeem Collins (12th) and Thomas again in the 23rd rounded off the scoring. Knockout winners Superstar Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw by Gasparillo Youths in their Group “B” match at Roopsingh Road Recreation Ground on Saturday.
Corneal Thomas struck twice for Rangers in the 13th and 54th minutes, but Shemek Hillaire equalised in the 45th, and a 69th minute penalty by Akeem Marshall gave Gasparillo a share of the points. Cruz International edged La Romain Lions 2-1 with a double from McKenzie Caddette in the 15th and 60th minutes on Sunday. Silas Spann got the lone goal for the Lions in the 55th.
