Motorcyclist killed in illegal drag race
A motorcyclist was killed at around 6.30 pm on Sunday while illegally drag racing at the Wallerfield Racing Circuit. According to reports, Carlos Alzola, 29, a father of two, died instantly when he lost control of his Red Yamaha 750 road bike which fell on top of him, crushing his skull and chest. Alzola, who was part of an illegal drag racing competition, wore no helmet when he crashed. According to investigations, the victim was a self-employed auto mechanic who had a keen interest in motorbikes and who took part in various drag racing competitions held at secluded areas all over the country.
When Newsday spoke to Madeline Alzola, the mother of the Upper Hutton Road, Belmont man, she described her son as an outgoing man who loved motorbikes and racing since he was a teenager. Another relative confirmed that Carlos Alzola went to the circuit to drag race when he got into the accident. When contacted, police told Newsday that their investigations are still sketchy because no one is saying exactly what happened, apart from the fact that Alzola was riding his motorbike and lost control. “No one is saying if it was a drag race and who was involved. “All we found was his body on the ground, with the bike at the side and a few people milling around.” Newday also learnt that Alzola was alive when the bike was removed from his chest, but he succumbed to his injuries before the police arrived. Funeral arrangements were still being put in place up to presstime. Sgt LeCointe is investigating.
