Mucurapo schools clash in netball championship

BRITISH GAS Secondary Schools Netball League champions Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive will defend their title against sister school Mucurapo Junior Secondary. The teams will lock horns at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo with the title on the line on Friday. At the same venue on Monday, Sangre Grande Educational Institute edged Fyzabad Composite 21-20 in a thriller in Group “B”, to earn the right to meet  Fellow Easterners Toco Composite in the play-off for third place.

Fyzo led 7-3 at the end of the opening quarter, and extended their lead to 13-7 at the half-time interval. But the Grande girls battled on resolutely to level the scores 17-17 at the end of the third quarter. Then Murlin Paul became the heroine, scoring the winning goal as time expired to clinch the victory. Paul scored 18 goals from 28 attempts and Avianne Archie three of 11 for Grande. Genniel Quashie had seven of 16 and Candy Collins 13 of  25 for Fyzo. In other action in Group “A” yesterday, Cedros Composite beat Holy Faith Convent 18-12 to slip into fourth position. Karen Phillip led Cedros with 11 goals from 18 attempts, Giselle Noel had six from 12 and Afeisha Alexis, one from seven. Andrea Kinsale scored all 12 goals for the convent girls who trailed 2-4; 4-8; 8-12 at the intervals.

For the third time on Monday, Carapichaima Senior Compre-hensive failed to show up for their match, this time against Pleasantville Senior Comprehen-sive. Final matches in the round-robin series are to be played today at Pleasantville Indoor Sports Facility. Toco Composite meet Holy Faith Convent; and Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive take on San Fernando East Junior Secondary from 1 pm.
