Taxi-driver robbed by ‘passengers’

A LA ROMAINE taxi-driver was robbed of $1,000 in cash and jewelry on Monday night by three bandits who pretended to be passengers. Kelshall Rampersad, 28, of Hector Street, La Romaine, picked up the trio at Cipero Street, San Fernando, near TTEC around 9.30 pm. The passengers asked to be taken to High Street.

On reaching the corner of Rushworth and Cipero Streets, one of the men placed a gun to Rampersad’s neck and announced a hold-up.
The driver was forced to hand over $150 and a $850 gold hand-band. The bandits forced Rampersad to drive to Cipero Road, St John’s Village, where they placed him in the truck of the vehicle and ran off. Rampersad freed himself and reported the hold-up to San Fernando police. PC Sookdeo of San Fernando CID is continuing investigations.
