Moodoo century humbles St Mary’s

Larry Moodoo scored 108 for Victoria to lead them to victory over St Mary’s Superstars in the second round of the South East Zonal Council Sunday League series in Moruga on Sunday. St Mary’s batted first and would have thought that their 230 for five in only 29 overs was sufficient for victory but Moodoo had other ideas. St Mary’s middle-order batsman Faoud Bassarath led the way with an unbeaten 77 that was scored off 77 balls with seven fours. Larry Ramlackhan was also in good form striking 45 off just 27 balls. After this it was all Moodoo as he plastered the St Mary’s bowling to all parts of the Moruga ground. He was ably supported in the victory bid by Randy Lall with an unbeaten 27.

There were only two other matches in the second round on Sunday as most the grounds were unfit for play. Guayaguayare bowled out Christian Conquerors for just 43 runs and then scored 44 for five to take a five-wicket victory. Rio Sports defeated Mafeking by 16 runs thanks to Naresh Ramkisoon who took three for 15 and scored 24 runs. Most of the secretaries of the zone complained to Newsday that the Princes Town Regional Corporation were not assisting them in preparing their outfield so they could not host any matches. “We have already done our part and prepared the pitch but the outfield needs to be graded. In our first round we turned up to play a match and found heaps of sand piled on the outfield,” one said.
