Water woes in Central, South today
There will be no pipe borne water in several areas in Central and South Trinidad due to repairs being conducted on a leaking 48-inch pipeline at the Desalination Plant at Point Lisas (Desalcott) which will cause a shortfall in supply. In a media release yesterday the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) announced that customers served from its South Transmission System will be affected in Caroni, Kelly, Warrenville, Cunupia, Enterprise, Longdenville, Chaguanas, Cara-pichaima, Couva, Claxton Bay, San Fer-nando, La Romaine, South Oropouche, Rousillac, La Brea, Vessigny, Union Village, Avocat, Siparia, Quarry Village, Santa Flora, Palo Seco, Erin, Debe, Palmiste, Phillipine and Penal.
WASA has adjusted the operations of its transmission system to optimise supplies from major sources to minimise the impact of the shortfall. However, it said some customers may experience low pressures. Desalcott has said repairs should be completed by Wednesday with service normalised within the 24 hours after. WASA said customers will be kept informed as repairs progress.
