Regiment to protect country against revolt
MINISTER of National security Martin Joseph last Saturday informed recruits of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, it was their responsibility to protect the nation against revolt, as their predecessors did in 1990. Joseph was delivering the feature address at the Passing Out of 197 recruits of the 2003 Regiment intake, at Teteron Barracks. Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Ancil Antoine, Director of the Special Anti-Crime Unit Brigadier Peter Joseph and Commanding Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard Captain Garnet Best were on hand to witness the ceremony.
Joseph made reference to the pledge made by the recruits saying, “it is a pledge you will be expected to honour as those before you did in 1990. Democratic Trinidad and Tobago owes a profound debt of gratitude to its sons and daughters in uniforms who were able to protect and serve the democracy by successfully confronting and bringing to justice those who sought to overthrow the nation’s constitution.” Awards were handed out to outstanding officers and their troops. Among these awards was for the Best Recruit - Christopher Trotman.
