Fight over pool game ends in murder
A BRAWL over a game of pool at a Tableland bar ended in murder after a 22-year-old man was stabbed to death and three of his friends injured, when another man went on the rampage with a knife, after being refused the opportunity to play in the game on Sunday night. Mitch Mohammed, of Grants Street, Rio Claro, died yesterday morning while undergoing emergency surgery at San Fernando General Hospital. His three friends — Shane Gualbance, 19, Dave Loutan, 21, and Anthony Ramdath, 24, all of Rio Claro, sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged. Police sources told Newsday Mohammed and his friends were playing pool at Sonny’s Bar around 8.40 pm on Sunday, when a man walked in and asked to join the game.
Mohammed told the man he (Mohammed) and his friends were already playing on the board and he (the man) would have to wait his turn. The man flew into a rage and started pulling the cue (pool-stick) away from Mohammed and a struggle ensued. The man struck Mohammed in his face and they started fighting. When Mohammed’s friends tried to assist him, they were attacked by two other men. During the fracas, which ended up outside the bar, the suspect pulled out a knife from his pants and stabbed Mohammed in his head, neck and buttocks. Mohammed ran a short distance away and collapsed, while the suspect and his two partners jumped into a maxi-taxi and car and sped off, leaving a bleeding Mohammed on the ground. Jason Small, a patron at the bar, rushed a semi-conscious Mohammed to hospital, where he died at around 1 am yesterday while undergoing surgery.
