Murder accused makes jovial court appearance
BON AIR resident Roger Lindsey left the Arima Magistrate Court in high spirits, even though Magistrate Gail Gonzales ordered that he be remanded into custody, when he appeared before her charged with murdering Dale Winters as well as seven other gun-related charges. Lindsey, who was represented by attorney Janette James-Sebastien, was charged with murdering Winters, 33, on January 22 at Lopinot Road, Arouca. Winters, a former Mark Guerra lieutenant, was shot and killed at the corner of Lopinot Junction and the Eastern Main Road, Arouca.
Lindsey was also charged with three separate counts of shooting at PCs Thomas, Paul and James with intent to do them grievous bodily harm. In addition, Lindsey was charged with possession of arms, possession of ammunition, possession of arms with intent to endanger lives and possession of ammunition with intent to endanger lives. All the charges against Lindsey stemmed from an incident that occurred on January 22 at Lopinot Road, Arouca. Lindsey was not called on to plead, since the charges were laid indictably. When Lindsey was escorted from the court by Cpl Jugmohan, he appeared to be in high spirits, joking and posing for pictures from the media. Lindsey will reappear before an Arima magistrate on February 20.
