Teen charged with murder

DAVID CHARLES, 19, appeared in court yesterday charged with murdering Earl Lewis at Laventille on January 28.

Charles appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls in the Port-of-Spain Eighth Magistrates’ Court to answer the charge. His attorney Patrick Godson-Phillips said his client was concerned about his safety at the Port-of-Spain Prison. But the Chief Magistrate said he had no control at the state prison. Godson-Phillips also asked that the preliminary inquiry start as soon as possible. Acting Inspector John Martinez of the Besson Street CID laid the charge. The case was postponed to February 26.
