Cyclist killed in Tobago

A middle-aged Trinidadian businessman was killed in an accident while cycling along the Claude Noel Highway in Tobago on Saturday.

Brendon Gurley, 55, of Real Spring Avenue in Valsayn, was pronounced dead at the Scarborough Hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle along the highway around 10.15 am. According to reports, Gurley, who was heading east, was in the process of turning on to the road leading to Canoe Bay when the accident occurred. As he was attempting to make the turn, a vehicle stopped to allow him to turn but another car, driven by Princeton Joseph, 46, of Bethel, Tobago, reportedly overtook the stationary vehicle and came into contact with Gurley. Police said the victim was barely alive at the scene and died in an EHS ambulance on the way to the hospital.
