Man stabs self in abdomen

FOLLOWING an argument with a relative, a 30-year-old man repeatedly beat himself on the head with pictures of Hindu deities and a glass bottle. When the bottle broke the Carapichaima man used it to stab himself three times in his abdomen. He is warded in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital. According to reports, the man and his common-law-wife had gone to the home of relatives at John Eli Road, Chase Village, where he had been drinking heavily. Around 7.30 pm, the man and a relative began arguing.

The man became infuriated and reportedly began beating his head with a bottle and pictures of Hindu deities, ignoring the pleas of his wife and relatives to stop. When the bottle broke, the man used it to stab himself on the right side of his abdomen. Frightened relatives summoned the police. It took two officers, EHS paramedics and relatives to subdue the man who was bleeding profusely from his wounds. He was rushed to the Couva Hospital where he was treated and transferred to San Fernando General Hospital. Freeport police are continuing inquiries.
