Popular drag racer laid to rest
It was clear that 22-year-old Andy “Pa-woo” Caruth was loved in life as well as in death as a massive crowd spilled from the Hope Anglican Church into its yard yesterday to bid him farewell. Caruth, who was employed with the THA Department of Health and also plied the Tobago East route as a taxi driver, last Friday succumbed to injuries sustained in a drag racing accident on the Claude Noel Highway on the previous night when his car was broadsided by another as he was attempting a 360 degree turn.
“Pa-woo” was described by all whose lives he had blessed as well-mannered but extremely miserable. One tearful co-worker told of how only days before, he (Caruth) had promised to “to take an extra wine” for him during the next Carnival season. “Little did he know that he would have been gone from us only a couple days after,” the saddened man reflected. The homily from Lay Minister Gibbon Phillip painted a very vibrant picture of the deceased as he sought to bring comfort to his family and friends.
