56 kilos of marijuana found in Carenage
Specially sealed and marked bags containing 56 kilos of compressed marijuana were discovered in an abandoned car at St Peter’s Bay, Carenage, around 12.30 am yesterday. Police investigators were up until yesterday trying to trace the car. Reports revealed that officers on patrol were alerted to a car parked at the beach. Checks were made and the bags containing the marijuana were found in the trunk of the vehicle. Officers towed the vehicle to the Carenage Police Station and the bags containing the drugs were weighed.
Police believe the owners of the drugs were supposed to pick up the drugs at a certain time, but the car was found and searched by police before this was done. Police also believe the drugs were to be shipped out of the country to North America. Senior officers revealed that special patrols were introduced in Carenage recently after calls were made to Crime Stoppers about drug transactions taking place on the beaches. Police believe the drugs are being dropped off in Carenage and then handed over to boat owners who transport the drugs to big boat owners. The drugs will be destroyed if no one is arrested. Snr Supt Lennox Gonzales is leading a team of investigators into the drug find.
