Aleong leaves $13M estate to two sons

Businessman Christopher Aleong, who was shot in his car last December at age 68, left an estate worth $13 million   to his two sons, Louis and Andrew Aleong. Aleong, who died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, named his two brothers Conrad Aleong, the former chairman and CEO of BWIA and David Aleong, a company director, as sole executors of his will. According to the executors’ application for probate of Christopher’s will, or letters of administration in respect of his estate, Christopher did not have any money in the bank, or cash in hand. However, he had real estate, shares in companies and insurance policies.

Aleong’s  estate comprised of a parcel of land situated in Belmont valued at $400,000. He also had two other parcels of land known as lots 17 and 18, in Diego Martin which were valued at $1,200,000. Aleong lived at Hibiscus Drive, Petit Valley and  owned No 8C La Riviera  apartment, Westmoorings, which was valued at $3,400,000. Aleong  had US$100,000 Barbados bond. He had shares in six different companies. One share in Leung Mon Kong Ltd, valued $1; 80 shares of Albrosco Holdings Ltd, valued $80; 75,840 shares in Trinidad Cement Ltd, valued at $455,040; 10,000 shares in BWIA, valued at $29,000; 66,759 shares in Sagicor Inc, valued at $702,304.68 and 150,000 shares in Guardian Holdings Ltd, valued at $4,500,000. He had seven policies of insurance, six of which were with Sagicor Life Inc and one with Colonial Life.

The policies with Sagicor were for various sums — $378,958.39; $500,000; $500,000; $1,000,000; $50,000 and $50,000. The Colonial Life policy was for $70,531.39. The total value of Aleong’s estate as listed for probate in the Probate Registry of the Port-of-Spain High Court, was $13,802,435.46. On November 24, 2003, a month before his death, Aleong revoked all former wills made by him, and declared that this would be his last Will and Testament in which he devised and bequeath all his real and personal property to his sons Louis and Andrew. According to the probate documents filed on February 27, 2004, the will was witnessed by Heather Huggins — secretary, and Russell Huggins, attorney-at-law. Attorney Huggins has applied for the grant of probate.
