Lance Small extradited today to face gun-running charges in the US

Attorney General John Jeremie gave the police the go-ahead to arrest Clive Lancelot Small for extradition to the US. Jeremie’s move came in the wake of a request from US Attorney General, John Ashcroft. Small, known as a member of the Jamaat al Muslimeen, is also known as Olive Enyahooma EL.

He was a leading player in the attempted coup of 1990, and was indicted by a US Grand Jury on May 23, 2002 on charges of “conspiracy to possess firearms; and possession of firearms contrary to the laws of the US.” At 3 pm yesterday, Small was taken from his Belmont home by officers from Central Police station. He is to be extradited today, and will be accompanied by US marshals who arrived to take him to the US.

The charges relate to an alleged attempt by Small in May 2001, to import 60 AK-47 rifles and ten Mac-10 machine guns with silencers into Trinidad and Tobago. Small has since been apprehended by members of the Crime Suppression Unit, and is now being processed for extradition to the United States in keeping with the existing treaties between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago.
