‘Satan’ murdered — gunned down at point blank range

CONVICTED BANDIT Peter Alexander, aka “Satan”, used to pack three guns to walk the streets. Yet on Friday night, he was not prepared to face his execution at the hands of a lone gunman who shot him three times about his body. During the incident an eight months’ pregnant woman was also wounded. Police said the country’s latest murder,  Alexander, 23, of Marabella, was a result of gang-related warfare. Reports said around 7 pm he was liming with friends at an apartment at 41 Mount Moriah Road, San Fernando, when the gunman walked into the yard. An altercation ensued between Alexander and his attacker, which police sources said, was a continuation of an ongoing dispute.

Earlier in the week, Sunday Newsday learned Alexander reportedly threatened to kill the gunman, who is from Arima, during an argument at Circular Road, San Fernando. On Friday night, the man pulled out a nine-millimetre gun and fired five shots — three of which struck Alexander in his chest, arm, and buttocks. The pregnant woman, whose name is being with-held by the police, was shot in her right thigh. Residents in the area said they heard the gunshots, but believed they were fire-crackers. One woman said: “After I heard what I thought were firecrackers, there was a lot of commotion down there. A woman started to scream, and bawl ‘He dead! They kill him!’ but I did not even look out to see because I was afraid.”

Alexander’s killer was reportedly involved with a shootout with police in Oropuche several months ago. As Alexander was bleeding on the ground, his killer walked out of the yard and onto the main road. Alexander and the pregnant woman were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The young woman was treated for her wound and warded in stable condition. Police told Sunday Newsday that Alexander was released from prison some four months ago after serving a conviction for robbery. Police said he also had other previous convictions for firearm and other offences.
