Arima attorneys happy with new court

WHILE Arima attorneys are happy with the move from  the rat, cockroach, and fly infested court to newer, modern and cleaner temporary facilities, they still have concerns. “The view to move the court is a move in a positive direction, albeit far too late. However, while the temporary court is a vast improvement to what we had, we still have concerns,” spokesman for the attorneys notary public Krishna L Doodnath told Newsday. “No longer will we have the problem of magistrates running from court to court. The new building will house three courts with three magistrates and has ample seating for the public and attorneys and proper working toilets.

“While we see this new building as far superior to the old court, we would like to see a permanent solution to this court problem and not another 20 years before it is solved. One of the areas not catered for is proper parking. “We would also like to see a conference room like in the Tunapuna court where attorneys can confer with their clients, the police and prisoners,  where we would be able to serve the interests of the public.” The court is currently being relocated from its Hollis Avenue, Arima address, where it has been for more than 20 years, to Prince Street in Arima. The previous building, which was located on Queen Street in Arima, was gutted by fire before being relocated to its present site. The new court officially opens tomorrow with a ceremony.
