South woman killed by tractor

A MOTHER of seven was crushed to death by a wheel tractor after she accidentally “hot wired” the agricultural heavy motor vehicle. Cane farmer, Kowcillia Ramcharan, 50, died two hours later while undergoing emergency surgery at the San Fernando General Hospital. According to police reports, Ramcharan was standing at the side of the tractor at around 4 pm when she saw a loose wire hanging from the engine of the vehicle, which was parked under her house at Teelucksingh Trace, Cungal Road in Barrackpore.

Police believe Ramcharan placed the wire in an area near the battery which caused the vehicle to start. The woman, who was subsequently, pinned under the large tyre, was rushed to the hospital by an EHS ambulance. Sunita Boodoo, daughter of the deceased, said she was not sure what happened because her sister, Lolita Ramcharan, 19, who witnessed the tragedy was traumatised and had to seek counselling by their pastor. Boodoo said her mother, who had planned to hold a thanksgiving at the end of the month, was very hard working and had just come from the garden when the incident occurred. An autopsy is expected to be performed today at the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital.
