Belmont man shot dead
TRINIDAD and Tobago recorded its 53rd murder on Sunday night with the execution of a Belmont man. According to reports, at around 7.50 pm residents of Observatory Street, in the vicinity of Harpe Place, heard several gunshots. On checking, they found a groaning, bloody Jim Bedlow with bullet wounds to his head and chest. He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigations revealed that Bedlow, 39, is well known to the police, having served several jail sentences for “pickpocketing.” When Newsday visited the Argyle Street, Belmont home of the dead man, relatives refused to talk to the media. Police sources also said they received no cooperation in Bedlow’s killing. “All they are telling us is what we know. He is a “pickpocket” and nothing more. But from all indications there appears to be more.” Bedlow’s death brings the nation’s murder tally to 53 for the year. Cpl Edwards of the Belmont police is investigating Bedlow’s murder.
