PM to launch AIDS plan today

The National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan and the committee implementing it will be launched at 9 am today at the Ballroom, Hilton Hotel, by Prime Minister Patrick Manning. In anticipation of the launch, a series of activities has already taken place, starting last week with the posting of red ribbons symbolising the international fight against HIV/AIDS on electricity poles around the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain; Gulf City bypass, San Fernando and Tobago.

A release from All Media Project Ltd said the ribbons are reminders to the general public about what has been called “the worst health crisis in the Caribbean region and the world.” The Inter-Religious Organisation also joined the drive by engaging in morning prayer last week at the Archbishop’s residence. “This coincided with similar effort perpetuated at schools across the country at which children participated in various activities to support the call for the eradication of this dreadful disease.”
