Four hurt in Valencia smash up
TWO PERSONS are warded at the Port-of- Spain General Hospital in serious condition following a three-vehicle smash up on the Valencia Stretch yesterday. They are Van Juen Harford and Surujdeen Dass, drivers of two of the vehicles involved in the collision. Karen Jones driver of the third vehicle escaped without any injuries, while Deepan and Anderson Alexander, passengers in Dass’ vehicle, suffered minor injuries. They were treated and discharged. The accident occurred at around 7.40 am when Harford, of Mary Street, Sangre Grande, lost control of his vehicle and collided with Surujdeen’s vehicle, which in turn crashed into the vehicle driven by Karen Jones. Officers from the Sangre Grande Police Station responded, followed by fire officers from Sangre Grande and Arima.
Dass, who was pinned in his vehicle, was eventually rescued by fire officers who had to use a bolt cutter to free him. He was taken by ambulance to the Sangre Grande Hospital and was treated and then rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he is warded in serious condition. Harford was also taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital, then transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he is warded in critical condition. The accident caused a huge traffic pile-up on the Valencia Stretch. Visiting the scene were Cpls Wayne Coutain and Curtis Skeete, PCs Blake, Sudeen, Maxima, Ashook and Mootoo. Cpl Monesh Baran of Traffic Branch in Sangre Grande is continuing inquiries.
