Teen mom allowed to breast-feed abandoned baby

THE teenaged mother of a newborn baby, who last week left her child in a bushy area at Rancho Quemado moments after giving birth, is being allowed to breast feed the baby girl at hospital, police said yesterday. The baby, who is now eight days old, remains warded at the Paediatric Ward of the San Fernando General Hospital. The 17-year-old mother told police she hid her pregnancy from her parents and left the baby in the bushes because she was afraid of her parents’ reaction. Police sources said the matter was still being investigated and upon completion, the file would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Geoffery Henderson. Last Wednesday, around 12.15 pm, the baby was found lying naked on a piece of cloth, some 15 feet in the bushes, off Johnston Link Road, Rancho Quemado. Cpl Corrie of the Santa Flora Police Station is continuing investigations.
