What goes around, comes around

THE EDITOR: The PNM’s “Politics of Spite” has eventually returned to haunt them from within its own bowels. Their nakedness has now been exposed to all in TT. One can go way back to the days of Gene Miles, Dr Winston Mahabir, Muriel Donawa-Mc Davidson, to today with Hinds, Coudray, Undine Job, and now Achong. We must not forget public servants, teachers, prison officers, policemen and a host of other professionals who suffer at the hands of the “Politics of Spite” organised by the PNM. All during this time PNM politicians all observed the “creed”, suffer in silence, but never, never go against the PNM in public.

Today, this creed has been broken and severely fractured, and strong-willed people (real leaders) are now showing their hands. Because of this PNM mentality, thousands of voters have vowed to stay away from the polls, which eventually gave the PNM the false feeling of a divine right to lead TT. With the advent of the NAR (1986), these voters broke their silence and humbled the PNM (33/3). To come, proportional representation (PR) is a must, there is no doubt about that. Some people mistakenly believe that PR would increase the incidence of racial voting, but that is so far from the truth. In actuality, what is going to happen is that voters will now feel that their support will have some meaning. In other words, if I live in a PNM stronghold, and I usually say that my vote will not count in a First Past the Post arrangement, under PR this will give some value to my vote, and I will now exercise my civic duty, as every vote counts, and the will of the majority will prevail, that is true democracy.

Mr Manning really has a problem, and this simply arose because when he says “No Comment”, to whom do we go to for answers, you are the Prime Minister. Prime means First, do we go to Bush or Chavez? Next, he says that he does not accept or respond to criticisms, as success brings criticisms, that is the beginning of a Dictator. Reneging on campaign promises is tantamount to lying to the people, for the sake of votes, and to hold on to power. The “Loss of Voice” scenario made my grandchildren laugh. The Caroni land distribution turnaround will have to be faced by Jarette and not John Rahael (so conveniently done). Hatchet man John is now faced with intellectuals (doctors), and he has started to back down. In the melee, you have just angered Jennifer, and she is not easy, as she is a true leader.

Every Ministry in this country is in shambles. UWI is in a state of curfew, as the PM says he is not interested in what happens inside this prestigious institution. One wonders what he would have said if he had a daughter in attendance. Today, the world is suffering from too much knowledge. Virtue has not increased in proportion to the advance of knowledge. That is the root cause of the misery in human society. The “Politics of Spite” must be eradicated in TT.
