Still no word on South kidnap victim
UP TO LATE yesterday, neither the police nor relatives of kidnapped south businessman Premanand Dulan, had received any word on his whereabouts In an unrelated incident, another man is breathing a sigh of relief having escaped from a group of men hours after they abducted him. Police sources said Dulan’s family had not been contacted and no ransom demand officially made. He was kidnapped outside the gate of his Freeling Street, San Fernando home around 8.30 pm on Friday by two men. On being grabbed, Dulan who was returning from walking his pet Doberman pup, was bundled into a blue car which sped off. Dulan’s pup was left behind. Dulan operated the family businesses — Dulan’s Jewelry on High Street, San Fernando — as well as a variety store. Family members have not commented on the incident and San Fernando CID officers and officers of the Anti Kidnapping Squad (AKS) are continuing investigations.
Meanwhile, one man is reported to have escaped his kidnappers late Saturday evening after they snatched him earlier in the day. According to reports, at around 12.30 pm 31-year-old Nigel Joseph was driving his Nissan B13 Sentra along Iros Forest Road, Cedros, when a van drove across the road, blocking the path of his vehicle. One of the occupants pointed a gun at Joseph while the others forced him into the van. Police said the abductors started demanding cocaine from Joseph. The men took Joseph to a house at Duncan Village, San Fernando, where they reportedly continued demanding cocaine from him. Joseph said he was dealt blows about his body and was also chopped. The men also reportedly threatened to kill him.
Joseph’s kidnappers removed him from the house and took him to Mon Desir Village, South Oropouche, where they stopped at a bar to purchase drinks. He reportedly started struggling with the men who remained in the vehicle and a shot was fired. Joseph still managed get out of the van and ran off, while the abductors sped away. Joseph stopped a passing motorist who took him to the Point Fortin police station. He was later taken to Point Fortin Hospital for treatment. No arrests have been made so far and Sgt Jimmy Palloo is leading investigations into Joseph’s abduction.
