Man charged with killing businessman
A COCORITE man yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls charged with the August 27, 2003 murder of a San Juan businessman. Terrence Barnett, 20, of Waterhole, Cocorite, was charged with the murder of 46-year-old Khalid Ali, of Swami Avenue, El Socorro. The indictable charge was laid by Cpl Andrew Charles of the St James CID. Ali, a ceramic worker, was last seen alive on August 27, 2003 shortly before he went missing from outside the Seventh Day Adventist Community Hospital, Western Main Road, Cocorite. A few hours after Barnett’s appearance before McNicolls, he was ushered before Magistrate Avason Quinlan to answer to several other charges. These included possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a firearm and ammunition to endanger life, the attempted murder of Obai Cummings and assaulting another man, Joseph Gomes, with the intent to rob him. He was represented by attorney Fitzgerald Hinds and will re-appear before McNicolls on March 31.
