El Socorro husband to stand trial for wife’s murder
AFTER hearing the evidence of the last three of 10 witnesses, Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls yesterday ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against an El Socorro man charged with the murder of his wife. Terry Yearwood, 35, was committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the Assizes for the October 10 murder of his wife, 30-year-old Donna Marie Alexis-Yearwood.
Alexis-Yearwood’s throat was slit at her mother’s home at the corner of 10th Street and Jogie Road, Barataria. She died on her way to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Yearwood was charged by Sgt David Abraham of the Barataria Police Station. The three witnesses, Dr Vishan Dimitri Ramnarine Consultant General Surgeon at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Akono Paul, of Jogie Road, Barataria and Sgt Abraham, were examined by State attorney Marissa Gomez. Patrick Godson Phillips, the attorney who had accepted the responsibility of defending the accused, was not present to cross-examine. Yearwood opted to reserve his defence and informed McNicolls that he would be relying on an alibi defence, the details of which he would give to the DPP in writing within the next 10 days.
