Hinds to be appointed Minister in the Ministry of National Security

Relenting to public opinion, Prime Minister Patrick Manning yesterday agreed to offer  the popular Laventille East/Morvant MP, Fitzgerald Hinds a position in the Government and Hinds, who had earlier turned down a junior ministerial appointment, this time accepted. The appointment, which would isolate former Labour Minister Larry Achong as the only PNM MP without any government responsibility, was announced yesterday by the Office of the Prime Minister.

The release stated that Hinds had requested two to three weeks to conclude all matters relating to his law practice. “On his availability, his new portfolio will be announced,” it stated. Newsday understands that Hinds is to be appointed Minister in the Ministry of National Security. Hinds, who along with Eudine Job-Davis formed the backbench for the past six months, now joins Job-Davis as a government minister.
