Obeah in San Juan
A San Juan woman is claiming obeah by relatives of her landlord who are trying to get her out the house. She is also suggesting obeah as the cause of his death and that of his son. “Since the death of my landlord, one week ago, my life has been thrown into turmoil by his relatives who were using various means to get me out the house. But things turned nasty yesterday morning when a relative practicing obeah burnt two black candles in front my door, placed a wreath and sprinkled the dead man’s ashes from the anurn as they left. And she the relative threatened, “she don’t care about anybody even if the house burns down”, a scared Sheila Ramdeen told Newsday.
“For years there has been a fight for the house and from all indications obeah could be behind the death of my landlord,” she added. He was also a practitioner of the occult and is blamed for the death of his son Allan who died three years ago. Ramdeen claimed the landlord and his children were always at loggerheads. “Because of the obeah that is being practiced by the family, I am scared for my life.I have no intentions of staying here much longer. As a matter of fact the only reason I am still here is because I am waiting on the National Housing Authority to hand me the keys to the house that has already been approved,” the frightened woman told Newsday at her Nicolasville, San Juan home yesterday. When Newsday spoke to officers at the San Juan Police Station they confirmed visiting the place, and while they could not say if charges for practicing “Obeah” could be brought against the person who did it, they suggested charges of molestation, intimidation and attempted arson could be brought. Police also added that there was no way they could prove obeah in the deaths of the landlord and his son.
