Senate President refutes statement by UNC Mark

Senate President Dr Linda Baboolal yesterday refuted a statement made by Senate Opposition Leader, Wade Mark, that in the suspension of his UNC colleague, Robin Montano, Dr Baboolal acted on the advice of Montano’s brother, Legal Affairs Minister Danny Montano, and Attorney General John Jeremie. Dr Baboolal insisted yesterday that at no time did she ever discuss the issue with Danny Montano, or Jeremie. She said the two came to see her on another matter, completely unrelated to that issue — whether the motion was sub judice or not. The Senate President said she wanted to be sure about her decision when she sought guidance from the Clerk of the Senate. “At no time,” she declared, “did I discuss  with these two other gentlemen my decision to suspend Mr Montano. I wanted to be sure under what Standing Order I should make my decision and that is when I sought guidance from the clerk,” she added.
