Three killed in 5 days
Kieshoh Guppy yesterday became the seventh person to be shot in the West in five days and the third to be killed during the same period. He is also the country’s 59th murder victim for 2004. Guppy, 19, of St Joseph Road, East Dry River in Laventille was shot on Monday night outside the Waterhole Basketball Court, Cocorite, along with his friend Ronnie Greenidge, 25, of Cocorite Terrace Waterhole, Diego Martin. According to reports, at around 10 pm, the men were walking in the vicinity of the basketball court when they heard shots. Realising they were shot, they ran a short distance before collapsing. The bleeding men were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where Greenidge, who was shot in his stomach, and Guppy, who was shot in his back, were warded in critical condition.
Police believe the shootings were drug-related. On Friday, security officer Derrick Simmonds was shot dead while on duty. On Sunday morning, Gabriel Taylor was shot in the head at Petit Valley. He, however, survived. Later that night, Narine Singh and his son Moonan Singh were shot in Diego Martin and Jason La Roche was shot dead in Petit Valley.
