Business people call for release of Dulan

Echoing the concerns of the San Fernando Business Association (SBA), the Downtown Owners and Merchants Association (DOMA) yesterday called for the safe release of South businessman Premanand Dulan and urged the Government and the Opposition to work together to solve the country’s crime problem. Dulan was kidnapped from his home one week ago. “We know that crimes of kidnapping are having a negative effect on the ambitions of established business people,” the Association noted. “We also know that the crime of kidnapping is acting to discourage those who have contemplated opening their own business.”

“This could have a harmful effect on the expansion of business and the inclusion of more persons entering the business sector. “The long-term harm to our country and to the improvement of the lives of all of our citizens should not be underestimated,” DOMA asserted. DOMA also renewed its call for the “three strikes” legislation that would remove bail for three time offenders on illegal weapons and concealed weapon charges. It reminded the public of its role, noting that it could participate in saving the country from the “destructive” crime of kidnapping by calling the Crime Stoppers hotline. “We do not believe that there should be a penalty such as kidnapping for putting one’s name on a sign and venturing into business,” it said.
