Chaguanas Borough meets outdoors

CHAGUANAS Mayor Dr  Suruj Rambachan said the Borough Corporation’s second outdoor meeting, which took place Wednesday night in Cunupia, was a huge success and had fulfilled their mission of “taking the operations of  Local Government institutions to the people.” “We are satisfied that wherever we hold such Statutory meetings, the public becomes totally involved in proceedings,” he said of the session which took place on the compound of Patos Auto Spare Parts. Mayor Rambachan told the gathering: “We are coming out to the people to let them get  first hand knowledge of the operations of Local Government bodies and what we can and cannot do so that you will appreciate our efforts in trying to make life better for the wider community with the limited resources available.”

The meeting accepted a motion by Montrose Councillor Gopaul Boodhan for the Town and Country Planning Department to reconsider  a clause which prohibits the building of structures in Chaguanas more than three storeys high. Boodhan explained that Chaguanas  was a rapidly expanding commercial city and it was essential to build structures more than four storeys to accommodate enterprises in keeping with the pace of development. Councillor Narsingh Ramberran (Cunupia) reported on what he had been doing since assuming duties eight months ago.
