Ganga’s delusions of elections

THE EDITOR: Ganga Singh must check his water tank! Something is causing the man to hallucinate. He is having visions of elections. It seems his party has consulted the oracles and have determined the likelihood of general elections by year’s end. Is that a definite perhaps? Poor Ganga’s problem might be contagious. He could take a cue from Saddique. “Watch your contents.”  Throw ‘way the tank! Worse is yet to come. The oracles might have won him “with honest trifles” only “to betray him in deepest consequence.”

He predicts deliriously that UNC will win. This might be more than obeah. Check the pepper sauce! It could be a serious complication in this man’s political dementia. Wait! Forget the pepper sauce. Call St Ann’s! Seriously however, the little fellow is going off at the wrong end. This is a common affliction among his colleagues even the ‘Silver Fox’ is showing symptoms of hydrophobia. “We think . . .” he is reported as saying. That short statement caused readers to freeze in utter consternation. The rest of the sentence however was comfortingly familiar, the same old delusionary babble, “the PNM is in pre collapse.” Ganga knows that his party is the national authority on “Kallap Singh.” It is a shameless shamble that has been in constant collapse from DAC to UNC. Who knows what Ramesh and Sudama are bringing?

The policy that Ganga seems to be advocating is precisely that of political microbes — opportunistic infection. He sees a feast in the political corpse of the corpulent Larry. His comrades in his party are eager to rush in and feed. That is the scavenger instinct. It does, in addition, provide some respite for his beleaguered associates. They would love to forget their present problems and those others ominously threatening to tighten the circle around them. It provides a little breathing space before the other battles in other places. He knows that only too well. All this beating of the war drums is merely a diversionary tactic. When Larry’s stumble is long forgotten and even forgiven, their journey into political Hades will have only just begun.
