Red Fete murder inquiry adjourned to April 1

FOUR State witnesses, who yesterday showed up at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court prepared to give evidence at the inquiry into the death of Kevin Cato, were ordered by Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls to return at 1 pm on April 1. The evidence of the witnesses could not be heard because State attorney Tricia Hudlin indicated that she was not “in the best of health to take the evidence in chief” and defence attorney Pamela Elder was before Justice Herbert Volney at the High Court. Cato, 18, of Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, was shot dead and another man, Ryan Solomon, 23, of Longdenville, Chaguanas, was severely wounded following an altercation at the Outrageous in Red Fete at Pier 1 in Chaguaramas on January 25. PC Dave Burnett, of St Barb’s Road, Belmont, was charged with Cato’s murder and wounding Solomon with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. Burnett was charged by Supt Errol Denoon of the Port-of-Spain CID.
