Boy, 2, beaten to death
Police are investigating the death of a two-year-old boy who died at 5 am on Sunday at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. According to reports, Antonio Mohammed complained to his mother that he was feeling unwell late Saturday night into Sunday morning. The boy was rushed to hospital where he died at about 5 am. Doctors at PoSGH became suspicious and called in police. An autopsy was ordered and carried out yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
The autopsy revealed that Antonio Mohammed died from internal abdominal and pelvic injuries together with haemorrhaging as a result of blunt trauma. The mother had reported to police that the child usually stayed at his grandmother in Edinburgh 500. However, on Friday, she took the child to the home of the child’s stepfather in Woodbrook.
On Saturday, he appeared normal but by Saturday night the child started complaining of feeling unwell before he was rushed to hospital.
As a result of the autopsy results, the Homicide Department has been called in to assist in the investigation. A 22-year-old man and the child’s mother, Anjanie Mohammed, are assisting police with their investigations. Sgt Johnny Abraham is leading the team of investigating officers into the incident.
