Craftsman claims ganja for meditation

A CRAFTSMAN who was caught with 30 packets of marijuana in the shop he operates near the Argyle Waterfall, in Tobago, was on Monday fined $8,500 by Scarborough Magistrate Annette McKenzie. Garvin Figaro claimed the  marijuana helped him to meditate while making his craft items. Although he pleaded guilty, he maintained that he had only bought 25 packets of the illegal herb. “You want to be so creative that you have to purchase 25 packets of marijuana? Those are packaged for sale,” the magistrate noted.

Fugaro responded: “I also have asthma and I does use it for meditation and to read my Bible.” Figaro was arrested and charged by PC Wendell Campbell, of the Roxborough Police Station. Prosecutor Cpl John Morrison told the court at around 1 pm last Saturday, PC Campbell and another officer were walking along the road to the Argyle Waterfall when Figaro, who was in a craft-shop at the roadside, hurriedly pushed a black bag into his pocket on seeing the officers.

Campbell searched Figaro and found that the black bag contained 30 small, plastic packets of  marijuana. “Boss, is just a little smoke to meditate when I doing my work,” Figaro is peported to have told Campbell. Figaro was ordered pay $4,000 of his fine immediately and was allowed 21 days to pay. In default he will have to serve ten months in jail with hard labour.
