Mom, son on $50,000 bail for arms, ammo

A MOTHER and son, who have each been placed on five arms and ammunition charges, have been granted bail in the sum of $50,000 each to cover the five charges. The mother, Pulmattie Ramkissoon, was granted bail by a Justice of the Peace at the San Juan Police Station on Tuesday in the sum of $50,000. In making an application for bail for the son Ravi Ramkissoon to Magistrate David Harris in the Port-of-Spain Third Magistrates’ Court yesterday, attorney Keith Scotland, holding for SC Israel Khan, told the court that it would be unfair to place Ravi on a higher bail than his mother since they were both charged with the same offences.

He also pointed out that Pulmattie’s presence in the court after being granted bail at the police station showed that she wanted to have the matter dealt with and put behind her. He said that he was sure that Ravi shared similar sentiments. The duo were charged with possession of a .38 revolver, possession of the firearm with intent to endanger lives, possession of four live rounds of ammunition, possession of ammunition to endanger lives and possession of 200 scratch bombs without a licence. The arms and ammunition charges were laid indictably, so the two were not called on to plead, but on the count of possession of the 2,400 scratch bombs, both Ravi and Pulmattie pleaded not guilty. The matter was then adjourned to April 8.
