Granny found hanging
A 62-year-old grandmother of seven who had threatened to commit suicide on several occasions was found hanging at her Penal home yesterday, police said. Investigators said Jaiwantee Ramdeo, 62, of Suchit Trace, used a length of rope cut from a hammock underneath her house to make a noose which she tied to a rafter in her bedroom. The body was discovered by Ramdeo’s son-in-law, Taran Pooran, who went to check on her at around 9.30 am after making numerous unanswered telephone calls to the elderly woman’s home.
Ramdeo had been ailing since suffering a stroke some three years ago, with the additional medical complications of high blood pressure and heart problems. District Medical Officer Dr Furlonge examined the body and ordered its removal to the San Fernando mortuary for an autopsy today. Visiting the scene yesterday were Insp Michael Wells, Insp Whitaker, Sgt Mohammed, Cpl Khan, PCs Reid and Khan. PC Khan is continuing investigations.
