Laventille man killed over drug pusher’s girlfriend

A Laventille man was gunned down Tuesday night over his love affair with the girlfriend of a drug pusher from a nearby village. According to reports, residents of Henry Boulevard, Trou Macaque, Laventille, reported hearing several shots at around 9.15 pm. On checking, they saw three men in white jerseys chasing and cornering Richard Fraser, 21, a short distance away on Upper Wharton Street. The men then fired several more shots before running off in the direction from which they came. The bleeding man was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

When Newsday visited Fraser’s Henry Boulevard home, frightened residents confirmed that Fraser had an argument with some men he was liming with at Block 44 about his relationship with the drug pusher’s girl. Because of this relationship and his refusal to end it, a hit had been ordered on his head. After Fraser was told to break off the relationship a number of times to no avail, an argument began and one of the drug pusher’s gang members pulled out a gun. Seeing the weapon, Fraser ran and was followed by the men who continued shooting. Fraser ran down a track into Henry Boulevard and on to Wharton street, where he was shot. The men then walked up to the bleeding man and fired off several more shots at him as he lay on the ground, before escaping. Fraser, a member of the Jamaat-Al-Muslimeen, was not known to the police. Autopsy results confirm death by haemorrhaging consistent with multiple shots to the body. Ag Sgt Mckay is investigating.
