South man held for murder in Canada
A ST MADELEINE man, wanted by Canadian authorities for murder and several gun-related offences, yesterday appeared before a Port-of-Spain magistrate after being arrested and charged at his home by local police officers. Shaun Darren Toon, 22, of George Street, St Madeleine, appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls charged with the September 21, 2003 murder of Keith Hunter Raglon. He was also charged with concealment of a firearm, unlawful use of a firearm and possession of a firearm after being prohibited from doing so under Section 110:1 of the laws of Canada. The offences allegedly occurred in Edmonton, Canada.
Toon, a landed Canadian immigrant, was apprehended with the assistance of officers of the St Madeleine Police Station and the Inter Agency Task Force. The charges were laid by Sgt Williams attached to Interpol. Attorney David West, who is seeking the interest of the Canadian authorities, requested an adjournment date ten days from yesterday in order to obtain relevant documents and directive from the Attorney General. Toon was represented by attorney Theodore Guerra and will re-appear in court on April 19.
