Hazel gets Easter reprieve
THERE will be no sitting of the House of Representatives today, but when the Lower House next meets on April 16 at 1.30 pm, Education Minister Hazel Manning will face a barrage of questions from her predecessor, Kamla Persad-Bissessar. At next week’s sitting, the Siparia MP has questions about the Russell Latapy High School, de-shifting of schools since January 2002, establishment of the Student Support Services Unit of the Ministry of Education, steps to implement the Continuous Assessment Programme in the nation’s schools, provide a final school curriculum, the Secondary Entrance Assessment Examination and CXC.
Caroni Central MP Dr Hamza Rafeeq will probe Foreign Affairs Minister Knowlson Gift about the annual contributions paid by the United Nations Development Programme and its agencies to the Government. Tabaquite MP, Dr Adesh Nanan, has questions for Public Utilities and Environment Minister Pennelope Beckles about certificates of environmental clearance for housing and expansion of the Crown Point International Airport in Tobago.
Debate is expected to begin on a motion to approve the Agricultural Census Order 2004 and on the Telecommunications (Amendment) Bill. There will be no sitting of the Senate next week due to the long Easter weekend. The Upper House will next sit on April 20 at 1.30 pm at which time debate is expected to continue on the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation (Amendment) (No 2) Bill 2003.
