Mom of 10 in court for chopping husband dead

The Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court was packed to capacity yesterday as scores of Balandra villagers gathered to catch a glimpse of the mother of 10 who is charged with the chopping death of her husband Solomon Narine. Hilary Narine, 36, appeared stone-faced when she appeared before Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Blake charged with the offence. She was not called on to plead since the charge was laid indictably. Magistrate Blake appointed attorney Carl Quamina to represent the interest of the accused, because she indicated to the court that she did not have any legal representation.

When the matter was called in the First Court,  Prosecutor Cpl Wayne Coutain informed the court that the police were unable to proceed with the matter because they are still awaiting exhibits from the Forensic Science Centre. He also indicated that the police are also awaiting further instructions in the matter from Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson. The matter was adjourned to April 19. Narine was charged on Wednesday with chopping to death her 39-year-old husband at their home on Languista Road, Balandra Village. The victim was reportedly chopped to death while asleep at home on Monday night.

Reports revealed that around 10.30 pm on Monday, the father of six retired to bed after an argument with a woman. The suspect reportedly armed herself with a cutlass and chopped Narine on the neck twice. He died instantly. The suspect reportedly walked to the home of a relative and asked them to call the police. Charges were laid against the mother of 10by Sgt John Ramdeen. The children of the murder accused are now staying at the home of their maternal grandmother.
